Chocolate Chip Pretzel Cookies

These are one of the best cookies ever. One of my most requested cookies that I make. An abundance of sweet chocolate chips paired with the saltiness of the pretzels, a winning combination. What more is there to say about these cookies except, make them!

I thought about putting pretzels in a cookie one day after making a snack that combined pretzels and chocolate chips. That combo was a huge craving for me at the end of my last pregnancy. So I did a recipe search and came up with this recipe. It just worked.

The only changes I make to this recipe are to occasionally use different combinations of chips. Sometimes I will use part chocolate and part white chocolate chips. Sometimes chocolate and peanut butter chips or all of them together. They are delicious with any combination.

A trick to cookies is to make sure you really beat the butter and sugar mixture well and then beat really well again when you add the eggs. It should be light and fluffy like below. The resulting cookies have a better texture.

The easiest way I have found to break the pretzels is by hand. It’s a pain but at least the pretzels aren’t broken to crumbs this way. You want decent size chunks of pretzels for these cookies.
